Adding a secret to your app

Store a key for an outside service under Secrets. Encrypted, never shown again, readable only by backend functions.

On this page
Open Secrets

In the app's dashboard, press Add secret.

Name and value

Name it the way the service does, in capitals and underscores, such as STRIPE_SECRET_KEY. Paste the value.

Save

It is encrypted and never shown again, not even to you. Saving the same name again replaces the value.

Several at once

Import .env takes the contents of a .env file, pasted or uploaded. Each KEY=value line becomes a secret.

How it is used

Only backend functions can read a secret, and only the ones the builder declared it for. Page code never can, which is why a feature that needs your key is always a function plus a page that calls it.

Rotating

Save the new value under the same name. It takes effect on the next run.

Never paste a secret into the chat. When the builder needs a key it shows a secret card. Paste the value there, not in a message.
