Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a required second step when you sign in, so a stolen password alone can't reach your account. Alongside an authenticator app, Praxivara lets you receive a one-time verification code by text message (SMS) or by email. This article covers turning those methods on, choosing one at sign-in, and changing the phone number used for SMS codes.

Before you start

You manage all two-factor settings in Settings > Security. You can turn on more than one method at the same time and pick which to use each time you sign in. Confirming or removing a method requires your password, so keep it handy.

Tip: When you first enable two-factor authentication, save your backup codes. They're one-time recovery codes that get you back in if you ever lose access to your phone or email, so 2FA can't lock you out permanently.

Turn on email codes

Email codes are sent to the email address on your account.

  1. Open Settings > Security and find the two-factor authentication section.
  2. Choose to enable email codes.
  3. Praxivara sends a 6-digit code to your account email. Enter it to confirm.

Once enabled, email becomes one of the options you can pick on the sign-in verification screen.

Turn on text-message (SMS) codes

  1. Open Settings > Security and go to the two-factor authentication section.
  2. Choose to enable SMS codes and enter the mobile phone number where you want to receive them.
  3. Praxivara texts a 6-digit code to that number. Enter it to verify the number and finish enabling SMS.

Your number is now verified, and text messages become one of the options at sign-in.

If the code doesn't arrive

  • Confirm the phone number is entered correctly, including the country code.
  • Use the resend option if it's available. There's a short wait between resends, so give the first message a moment to arrive.
  • For email codes, check your spam or junk folder.

Choosing a method when you sign in

If you have more than one 2FA method turned on, the sign-in verification screen lets you choose which one to use. Select text message or email, and Praxivara sends a fresh code for that attempt. Enter it to finish signing in. You can also switch to a backup code from the same screen if you can't receive your usual code.

Changing the phone number used for SMS codes

You can't edit the verified phone number directly. To move SMS codes to a new number, turn the method off and set it up again with the new number.

  1. Open Settings > Security and go to the two-factor authentication section.
  2. Disable SMS codes. You'll be asked for your password to confirm.
  3. Enable SMS codes again, this time entering the new phone number.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code texted to the new number to verify it.

The old number is no longer used once the new one is verified.

Note: If SMS is your only active second factor, consider turning on a second method (such as email or an authenticator app) before you disable SMS, so you're never left without a way to complete sign-in.

Turning a method off

To remove SMS or email as a 2FA method, open Settings > Security, choose the method, and disable it. You'll be prompted for your password to confirm. If your account is required to keep two-factor authentication on, you'll need at least one method enabled at all times, so add or keep another method before removing your last one.
