When two-factor authentication is turned on for your account, Praxivara asks for a second step after your email and password. This adds a layer of protection so a stolen password alone can't get in. This article explains how to complete that step, switch methods, and use a backup code if you're stuck.
What the verification step is
After you enter your sign-in details correctly, Praxivara shows a verification screen and asks for a short code from your chosen second factor. Only once you enter a valid code are you signed in.
You'll see this step every time you sign in on a device that needs to be verified. It's a normal part of having two-factor authentication enabled, not a sign that anything is wrong.
Enter your code
- Sign in with your email and password as usual.
- On the verification screen, open the method you use — your authenticator app, your text messages, or your email inbox — and find the current 6-digit code.
- Type the code into the field and confirm.
Codes are time-sensitive. If a code is rejected, it may have already expired — wait for a fresh one to appear (or be sent) and try again.
Tip: If your authenticator app's code keeps getting rejected, check that the date and time on that device are set to update automatically. A clock that's out of sync is the most common cause of "incorrect code" errors.
Choose a different method
If you've turned on more than one second factor — for example, an authenticator app plus email codes — the verification screen lets you pick which one to use for this sign-in.
- On the verification screen, look for the option to use a different method.
- Select the method you can reach right now.
- Retrieve the code from that method and enter it.
This is useful when your usual method isn't handy — say your phone is out of reach but you can still open your email.
If your code doesn't arrive
For text-message and email codes, use the resend option on the screen if the code doesn't come through. A few things to check:
- For email codes, look in your spam or junk folder.
- Give it a moment before resending — there's a short wait between requests, and asking repeatedly in quick succession can temporarily hold up delivery.
- Make sure you're checking the right place: email codes go to your account email, and text codes go to the phone number you verified.
Use a backup code
Backup codes are one-time recovery codes you saved when you first turned on two-factor authentication. They're your way in when you can't reach your authenticator app, phone, or email.
- On the verification screen, choose the option to enter a backup code.
- Type one of your saved codes.
- You'll be signed in as normal.
Each backup code works only once. After you use one, it stops working, so cross it off your saved list.
Note: If you're running low on unused backup codes, sign in and open Settings > Security to see how many remain and to generate a fresh set. Generating a new set immediately replaces the old codes.
If you can't complete verification
If you've lost access to every method and have no backup codes left, you won't be able to get past the verification step on your own. To keep your account safe, this step can't be skipped. In that case, reach out to support for help recovering access.
Manage your verification methods
Once you're signed in, you can review and adjust how you verify. Open Settings > Security to:
- Turn additional methods on or off (turning a method off asks for your password to confirm).
- Check how many backup codes you have left and generate new ones.
- Set up your authenticator app, text-message codes, or email codes.
Keeping more than one method active — and a saved set of backup codes — is the best way to make sure you're never locked out.
