Your billing address is used to calculate applicable sales tax or VAT and to complete charges. If an address can't be verified, or a required field is missing, a purchase or renewal may not go through. This article walks you through fixing it.
Where to update your billing address
You can add or update your billing address at any time without changing the card on file.
- Open Settings and go to the Billing page.
- Find the billing address section and choose to edit or add your address.
- Enter your full address, then save.
Tip: Updating your address here only changes your address. Your saved cards stay exactly as they are.
Fixing a "couldn't be verified" error
If you see a message that your address couldn't be verified, one or more fields usually don't match a valid, deliverable address. Check each line carefully:
- Street address — Include the house or building number and street name. Put suite, unit, or apartment numbers in the second address line rather than combining everything on one line.
- City — Make sure the city is spelled correctly and matches the postal code.
- State, region, or province — Select or enter the correct one for your country.
- Postal or ZIP code — Confirm it's complete and matches the city and state.
- Country — Make sure the country is set before you review the other fields.
Re-enter the address rather than editing a single character, save again, and retry your purchase. Small mismatches between the postal code and the city or state are the most common cause.
US customers must select a state
If your country is the United States, a state is required. Leaving it blank will stop the address from verifying and can prevent a charge from completing. Select your state from the field provided, then save and try again.
Declines caused by a missing billing address
If a payment is declined and you don't have a complete billing address on file, add one first. A card can be declined simply because there's no address to validate the charge against.
- Go to Settings → Billing.
- Add or complete your billing address, making sure every required field is filled in.
- Save, then retry the plan change, upgrade, or purchase.
If the decline continues after your address is complete and correct, the issue is more likely with the card itself. Try updating the card or adding a different one, then retry.
If your country or region isn't serviced
Charges can only be completed for supported countries and regions. If your billing country isn't currently serviced, a charge won't go through even when the address is otherwise valid. If you believe your region should be supported, reach out to support so we can help.
Reviewing tax before you're charged
Once your address is verified, any applicable sales tax or VAT is calculated from it and shown on the order summary before you confirm a purchase. The same amount is itemized on your invoices, which you can download from the Billing page. If the tax shown looks wrong, double-check that your billing address is accurate and up to date, since tax is based entirely on that address.
Still stuck?
If your address is correct and complete but still won't verify, contact support with the address you're trying to save. We can help identify which field is causing the mismatch.
